Specifications

Basic specifications (only a couple of pages long) are downloadable from the Asset Languages website. Asset is based on can-do statements and is content free. The basic specifications contain grammar and structures and suggested contexts at Breakthrough, Preliminary, Intermediate and Advanced (where available).

Teacher assessment packs and sample tests

Asset Languages will fit into existing schemes of work and any resources which teachers have used in the past will be appropriate. However, teachers will want to obtain sample materials and the teacher assessment packs from Asset in order to prepare their students for the types of assessment which will face them. For example, in reading and listening assessments questions are posed in English and teachers may need to devise their own questions for texts which they would normally exploit in other ways. For the speaking assessments, describing a photograph is one of the tasks and students will need practice in this skill. Sample teacher and external assessment tasks can be downloaded from the Asset Languages website and mp3 files to accompany the listening tests. Orders can also be placed for the teacher assessment packs on the website.

When you purchase a Teacher assessment pack, self-access training materials accompany the pack. You can complete these in your own time and then send them back to OCR to be marked. For more information, see Teachers/become accredited.

Cluster support groups

Schools and colleges delivering Asset find it helpful to belong to a cluster support group.  Membership of such a group gives teachers helpful local contacts and support and training and resource ideas can be shared.
