NVQ Languages

Resources

The NVQ course is based on the National Language Standards, 2005

Assessments should be planned based on these standards and teachers delivering the course may choose to prepare their own materials based on their locality, businesses  with whom they have links or the specific interests of their students or use commercially produced ones.

Schemes of work for NVQ

Here are some schemes of work for NVQ languages.  Many of them have been devised by schools used existing textbooks and resources.

Using “Contexte” to deliver an NVQ course in French (levels 1 & 2) (pdf, 522KB)

List of vocational books in French, German, Spanish and Italian which can be used to assess and deliver NVQ.

Often when delivering vocationally-related language/applied courses, teachers will find that mainstream textbooks are just not enough. However, there are some books which can be used to supplement the resources you will have to make yourself.

Using the BBC “Talk French” website

The BBC “Talk French” website contains video clips and exercises which are at level 1 of the National Language Standards.

Here is a grid showing coverage of the National Language Standards (Level 1) for tasks on the BBC “Talk French” website.  This could provide very useful evidence for a level 1 portfolio. (doc, 60KB)

Other BBC languages web pages could be mapped to the standards in a similar way.

Awarding body guidance and specimen materials

All awarding bodies base their specifications on the National Language Standards 2005.

Therefore, the specimen materials available will be suitable for use with any awarding body.
