Teaching of AS and A2 and the International Baccalaureate at Impington Village College
Description of lesson - Leonardo di Caprio’s environmental campaign at the Cannes Movie Festival
Teacher: Yannick Crespy
The video clips below show good practice in the teaching of AS and the IB diploma. The learners are a group of 13 sixth form students, three of whom are taking A level and ten of whom are on the IB programme. The topic was chosen as a transition from a module on the media, their importance and use, to a module on the environment (as per the OCR specification). It is also related to human interests and the arts and was introduced as a topical news item.

Using a topical video news item In this clip an interactive whiteboard and sound system are used to present a video clip. This is exploited by the use of a gapfill exercise focusing on key vocabulary. The teacher then moves on to some language focused activities (identification of synonyms) to broaden vocabulary. |

Discussion in groups and reporting
back In this clip the students move on to discuss environmental issues in groups and then report back to the class the content of their discussions. At the end, some students explain how the lesson fits in with their IB programme. |
