Speak up! (YPF15)
Using the target language in class

Peter Satchwell and June de Silva

Based on Young Pathfinder 4, Keep talking, this book provides practical and realistic guidance to help teacher and children interact in the new language with self-assurance and use it in the classroom as much as possible. It contains advice on classroom language, and developing a stock of phrases which both teacher and pupils can feel confident using. It discusses the process of children learning how to learn languages: how to listen, mimic new sounds, memorise and record what has been learnt, accept mistakes as part of learning, and experiment with new language. Ideas for activities to encourage target language interaction for both Key Stage 1 and 2 are provided. Examples are given in French, German and Spanish.  There is also guidance on planning for progression for Key Stages 1 and 2.
