Comenius Netword training for adult education tutors 4 October. This FREE event combines news and teaching tips for all those engaged in post-19 language teaching.

Headstart, 9 October is a one-day CILT course for teachers of primary languages who are either recently appointed subject coordinators or about to become a subject coordinator.

14-19 Diplomas and blended learning seminars 25 November. Bob Thomas and Steve Mulgrew are running sessions on how to integrate languages in the new 14-19 diplomas and a model of providing language learning for small cohorts through a blended model.

Language Learning Strategies, 9 December, is a one-day CILT course which will look at the role of learning strategies within the primary school and will see how language learning strategies link to learning strategies in other curriculum areas.

Developing intercultural understanding, 27 January, is a one-day CILT course exploring activities to develop Intercultural Understanding in the primary school.

Next steps in ICT for primary languages, 24 March, is a one-day CILT exploring the many opportunities provided by ICT in the primary languages classroom, including the use of podcasts, blogs and wikis and digital recording equipment to inspire young language learners.

International Dimension Pack The British Council has produced a pack for schools on the ‘International dimension’, which contains support materials for curriculum development, linking, CPD and languages. Packs are currently being sent to all Local Authorities, but if you’d like to receive an individual copy for your school, you can request one by emailing josephine.power@britishcouncil.org

‘Implementing languages entitlement in primary schools: An evaluation of progress in ten Pathfinder LEAs’ (July 2005) is a new OfSTED report. Download it via this link.

“You don’t know at the time how useful they’ll be …” Implementing MFL entitlement in KS4. This OfSTED report, commissioned by the DFES and published in June 2005, looks at the impact of the change from compulsion to entitlement for languages at KS4.
