Language Trends 2007 - Adult learners
A survey of adult language provision by LAs and FE colleges was carried out by CILT, the National Centre for Languages in collaboration with the Association for Language Learning and NIACE. The survey took place from December 2006 to February 2007 and sought data based on learner figures for the academic years 2004-5 and 2005-6.
The main findings include:
- The number of adults learning languages in local authority and FE college classes is continuing to decline.
-
Spanish continues to grow as the foremost language learnt, with Italian, British Sign Language and Arabic also increasing their share of the market.
