European Award for Languages - 2004 Winner
Euro 2004 Cultural and Linguistic Extravaganza
A cross-curricular project, which involves staff, students, families and
the local community, this extravaganza aims to break down cultural barriers
and generate enthusiasm for languages. Pupils learn seven or eights different
languages as well as learning about the history, geography, food, traditions,
art, music and famous scientist of their adopted nations.
Then pupils compete against each other in a mixed football competition,
with the overall winners receiving a trophy made by the technology department.
The project works to promote languages, European understanding and motivate
boys in the context of the European Championships.
King James’s School, Knaresborough is an 11-18 mixed comprehensive
with 1,800 pupils all studying a language to GCSE.
