European Award for Languages - 2004 Winner
French Primary Liaison
Winner of the French Embassy Language Prize
An inspiring project which
sees year 10 students become French ‘teachers’ at local feeder
primaries. One-hour classes over a six-week period cover a range of topics
and activities, highlighting both languages and cultural awareness. Pupils
are given a certificate and a calendar of French festivals, produced by
their year 10 ‘teacher’, who in turn is awarded a certificate
to be included in their ‘Record of Achievement’ folder.
The project is led by Holyhead School (Birmingham); a mixed comprehensive
which despite high levels of social deprivation is achieving excellent
GCSE results and has recently received an Ofsted Gold Star award.
