European Award for Languages - 2004 Winner
Video-Conferencing in European classrooms
Winner of the German Embassy Language Prize
Drawing on modern technology, this project aims to increase motivation
for language learning through regular opportunities to communicate for
a real purpose. Weekly conferences cover a wide range of topics: school
life to the local environment, cultural stereotypes to the war in Iraq.
Student for exchanges and work experience through video links with students,
employers and host families and such live video links mean that a maths
teacher in Germany can give a lesson to pupils in Exeter.
St Peter’s Church of England High School became a language college
in July 2003. Business people from ten local firms have been involved
in the work experience programme and video-conferencing links.
