Introduction
Information and Communications Technology is increasingly an integral part of teaching and learning languages in the UK. The National Curriculum for schools in England, for example, recognises ICT as having applications in the teaching of all curriculum including languages. Courses are available for many languages on CD-ROM or online. A wide range of technologies is used in teaching institutions, ranging from video recorders and language laboratories to satellite television and interactive whiteboards. ICT is extensively used in CILT's own courses and offered as a subject in certain training events, books and online resources.
E-mail discussion lists
CILT has set up a number of e-mail discussion lists designed to enable language teaching professionals to:
- exchange ideas
- ask each other questions
- seek advice from peers
- discuss issues of policy and promotion
- comment on materials
- share problems & 'challenges' and
- keep each other up-to-date with what's going on
Many teachers and trainers who already subscribe to e-mail discussion groups find them an invaluable source of professional up-dating.
There is no charge to join the discussion lists. They are open to anyone who is interested and everyone is welcome to join.
ICT CPD Events
CILT works directly with practising teachers to produce a comprehensive programme of conferences and training events for classroom teachers across all sectors of language teaching.
CILT is at the forefront of incorporating ICT into MFL classrooms. Want to know more about ICT in the languages' classroom? Attend CILT's in-service ICT training events for MFL teachers.
ICT Publications
CILT publications cover the full range of language teaching interests. We pride ourselves on our coverage of current issues and debates as well as on the practical advice and support our publications provide for teachers in the classroom.
The most recent publication on ICT is Impact on learning: what ICT can bring to MFL in KS3 in the New Pathfinder series.
We also have an InfoTech series which covers a range of ICT topics including online communication, multimedia, ICT management, video, the Web and text manipulation.
