Black Country Networks for Excellence launches Comenius Centre Pathfinder has now launched the Comenius Satellite Centre at Wolverhampton Science Park. The launch event which took place on September 30th was attended by local, regional and national partners including the national and regional managers for the Comenius Network, the Spanish Embassy, the Association of Language Learning, the BBC, the local LSC and many teachers and tutors who have been part of previous Pathfinder activities. Guests were able to see the new Comenius Centre and browse the services and resources available while enjoying light refreshments. Songs for European Day of Languages September 26 is the European Day of Languages. To celebrate we have made three three songs available – one each in French, German and Spanish. These are from a CD of songs recorded by some of the Foreign Language Assistants who were with Birmingham schools last year. They are children’s songs, and very short – ideal to have your pupils learn them on the European Day of Languages. You might even organise a competition to see how quickly children can learn one, or all three songs. Networks for Excellence Joins Comenius Comenius West Midlands is delighted to welcome the Networks for Excellence (Black Country Pathfinder) as a partner helping to support the implementation of the National Language Strategy across the whole of the West Midlands region. Based at the University of Wolverhampton Science Park, NfE is itself made up of a range of partners including the Black Country Learning and Skills Council, the Black Country 14-19 Pathfinder and the four local education authorities (Dudley, Sandwell, Walsall and Wolverhampton). For pictures of the new resource centre, click here. The new Comenius Manager, Henriette Harnisch, has many years of experience in the languages field. She has been director of the 14-19 Pathfinder, the only one in the country which focused on languages and which has done significant work on alternative models of language delivery for the 14-19 age group. She was also head of languages at the Brasshouse Centre in Birmingham for three years. She now holds the role of coordinating language developments across the whole of the Black Country across the whole age range. Henriette will be working with the Comenius West Midlands Regional Manager, Rona Heald, to devise and deliver a programme of consultation, support and action for all parts of the region.
