Palgrave Foundations

The No. 1 series of choice for Language Co-ordinators since the series was launched in 2001.  2008 sees some exciting developments - new editions of French 1, French 2 and Italian 1 are all launched this year and are now accompanied by audio CDs, as is the popular Spanish 1.

BBC ACTIVE

Alongside our existing BBC Active language courses, we also have Languages At Your Fingertips (LAYF), the latest in multimedia supported learning from BBC Active and the University of Cambridge Language Centre.  Consisting of Basic and Intermediate levels in French and Spanish, LAYF is ideally suited for networking onto a university intranet, offering your students round-the-clock support.  It can be used for supported self-study in between classes or as an interactive classroom resource incorporated into your lesson plan, and contains over 400 different activities, over 100 hours of video and audio resources and has 60 hours of learning per language, per level.

Asset Languages

Asset Languages is an exciting way of motivating language learners and rewarding their language skills. 

Asset Languages assessment scheme is for language learners of all ages and abilities: from primary school through to further, higher and adult education.

Asset Languages is based on the Can Do Statements of the DCSF Langauges Ladder and links to Common European Framework levels.  It has been developed by OCR as part of the National Languages Strategy.  The flexibility of Asset Languages allows Higher Education users to accredit language learners from ab intio level right up to higher performance levels by assessing the skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing separately.

 

Careers Europe

The languages and Careers Resource Pack: This resource pack aims to clearly link the iportance of learning a language for future careers opportunities. 

EXODUS:  Exodus is a one-stop database for information about opportunities abroad, covering all apsects of working , training, living and studying in Europe and beyond.  Exodus can be used directly by students/pupils for research. 

The Gap Year Resource Pack: The Gap Year Resource Pack is a comprehensive guide to planning and preparation of Gap Years for people of all ages.  This pack includes information on opportunities available, case studies, as well as appendices of useful information and teaching resources.

 

European Schoolbooks

In ESB's catalogue, you will find self-study and classroom courses, grammars, reference books, DVDs, CD-Roms, and a wide selection of classic, modern classic and popular literature, plus magazines and specialist periodicals, mostly French, German, Spanish and Italian, but also some in many other languages. And the range is increasing all the time.

 

CILT, the National Centre for Languages

CILT, the National Centre for Languages seeks to promote a greater national capability in languages, supporting and developing multilingualism and intercultural competence in all sectors of society. CILT manages major initiatives in support of languages. It works closely with partner organisations in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland and supports language networks throughout the UK. It is a key partner in the implementation of national languages strategies and plays a significant role in languages initiatives at European level.
