Language challenges
Since the European Year of Languages in 2001 people across Europe have set themselves language challenges, particularly around the European Day of Languages. The challenges are identified by the individual and are used as an incentive to boost learning. Examples include:
- Learning basic greetings in a partner's language
- Reciting a poem in a new language
- Learning enough language to introduce colleagues at a business event
- Encouraging as many pupils and parents as possible to say hello in a new language on the European Day of Languages
If you are setting yourself or your learners a challenge this year please let us know.
A to Z Challenge
The A to Z Challenge was first launched in 2005 when CILT produced its A to Z of Languages and Careers and with last year's A to Z, we hope that even more of you will take the challenge.
It's easy - just identify which languages you can say hello in, from a to z and complete the on-line form. Don't worry if you can't do one for each letter of the alphabet, you might find that you know more than you think!
You can do this on your own, with friends, your whole class, school or company. You get a certificate at the end of it and can print that as many times as you like.
Have fun!
