Annual conference
CILT organises an annual conference addressing the language and intercultural skills issues in business and employment.
The Conference aims to bring together key stakeholders such as Regional Development Agencies, representatives of UKTI, Chambers of Commerce, small business, CBI, IOD, TUC, employers and employee representatives, Sector Skills Councils, the Learning and Skills Council, Government Offices, the DfES and FE colleges and other work-based learning providers.

Keynote speakers from the government, the SSDA, Astrazeneca, a major international company, ELAN, a European project and the Sector Skills Councils CITB-ConstructionSkills and Goskills presented a range of perspectives on the need for languages and intercultural skills.
The conference was sponsored by the Skills for Business Network and the Language Skills Alliance, a strategic partnership between CILT, the National Centre for Languages and GoSkills, supported by the Sector Skills Development Agency (SSDA).
The event showcased exciting initiatives developed by the National and Regional Language Networks, which embed language and intercultural skills in a range of sectors: passenger transport, retail, food and drink, land-based, hospitality, travel and tourism, clothing and footwear.

Conference report and speeches
This conference took place on 12 December 2005 at Cranfield Management Development Centre in Bedford. CILT, the National Centre for Languages set out the latest evidence making the economic case for languages, launched the Talking Sense report and informed stakeholders, sponsors and providers of future plans based on the recommendations contained in the report.
Sir Trevor McDonald, OBE, patron of CILT, spoke at the event and was presented with his Comenius Fellowship, awarded for outstanding service in the field of languages.
