Business support
CILT, the National Centre for Languages and the Regional and National Language Networks – the (R)LNs - work to support businesses in many ways.
The (R)LNs act as brokers, offering information and advice on language related concerns to businesses of all sizes and from all sectors. To see some examples of the ways in which this work has helped individual companies look at the case studies available on the websites of the Language Network of each region and nation.
They work in close collaboration with bodies such as their local UKTI, Regional Development Agency and UK Commission for Employment and Skills (UKCES) networks, to offer support to companies developing their international trade strategy through programmes like the Passport To Export workshops, the Export Communications Review offer, and the work done by local International Trade Advisers; and also to support companies dealing with issues of migrant labour and managing a multicultural workforce.
They also produce guides to using Language Services such as Translation and Interpreting, as well as Language Training, which offer invaluable insights into the advantages (and potential pitfalls) of using such services. There are also cultural briefing notes, offering information and advice on dealing with different cultures round the world, They can offer tailor-made advice to individual companies signposting them to appropriate services, create multilingual materials for use as public information documents, in-company aide-memoires etc, and also provide a forum for companies to come together to share experience and best practice; see the events listings on the individual (R)LN sites to find out more about these.
