Adult education news
Learners’ and teachers’ views on what constitutes
‘quality’ in language learning in adult education – a European
view
A survey carried out in a number of European countries has shown
that learners and teachers within the adult learning sector have a
universal view of what they consider to be a high quality teacher
and a high quality learning experience. It has also thrown up some
surprises in terms of what learners and teachers consider
unimportant in a high quality learning experience.

QCF language qualifications
Language qualifications continue to be approved for the
Qualifications and Credit Framework, but often there is a time lag
between the qualification being approved and appearing on the
Learning Aims Database (LAD). If you are looking to offer a
particular qualification at a particular level, but it does not
appear on the LAD, then please check on the accredited
qualifications website. If the qualification you are looking
for is on there, then please be patient – it will appear on the LAD
in due course.
New website for information on careers and
courses
The Government has launched a new careers service for adults,
Next
Step. The new look website contains general information on
careers, as well as advice on improving your prospects through
learning, and how to access funding for learning. There is a search
function that allows you to look for specific courses in your area
– you can use this to see what languages are available at what
level in your region.
Choosing the best vocational language
qualification
CILT are running Alternative
Accreditation events in Bristol, Wolverhampton , Leeds and London.
They are mainly intended for schools, but may be of interest
to teachers of languages for adults too. Experts from the awarding
bodies will talk about ABC and NVQ as well as general
qualifications such as Asset.
