Call for Participation In New European Language
Programme
The European Centre for Modern Languages
(ECML) is seeking submissions for a brand new programme of
activities for 2012 which focus on inclusive, plurilingual and
intercultural education. The projects will contribute to the
Council of Europe’s work on promoting quality education for
all.
The new programme which runs from 2012 to 2015
builds on the Centre’s previous work and widens its scope to move
beyond the foreign language classroom and include all linguistic
abilities and the needs of all groups of learners. Projects will
also focus on informal and non-formal language learning and on the
interactions between the stakeholders involved in the education
process. Its aim is to make a significant impact on learning
through developing practical tools and materials directly for the
use of learners and teachers.
Projects can last from 2 to 4 years and
proposals are invited from professionals working in the field of
education or from those working in the wider language arena of
regional or minority languages and intercultural education.
Proposals are also being sought for projects on sign languages and
provision for the blind and visually impaired.
The ECML was established in 1995 in Graz,
Austria, as a Council of Europe institution. It focuses on bridging
the gap between language policy and classroom learning practice. A
unique intergovernmental centre it offers concrete approaches to
the issues and challenges facing Europe’s multicultural societies
