School children across the UK are being invited to take part in
this year’s Linguistic Olympiad. It’s a free competition of
linguistics puzzles which starts in schools in February. There’s a
Foundation Level for younger or less experienced pupils and an
Advanced Level for the more able.
The top 16 entrants from the Advanced level go through to Round
2 – a residential weekend language course in Edinburgh in
March. Then it gets really exciting as the four best
linguists get the opportunity to represent the UK at the
International Olympiad in Linguistics in the USA.
You can find out more about UKLO via their website, where there are
instructions as to how to register your school for the 2011
competition.
