A new survey to assess the language learning proficiency of
students at the end of Key stage 4 is being launched by the
European Commission.
England is one of the 14 countries taking part
in the European Survey on Language Competencies (ESLC) which
enables researchers to collect background information on foreign
language teaching. It will be used to compare approaches across
participating countries and its findings will be taken into account
in formulating national policies.
The Department for Education (DfE) has commissioned the National
Foundation for Educational Research (NFER) to run ESLC in
England.
More information about ESLC and England’s participation in the
survey can be found at www.nfer.ac.uk/eslc
