The government and executive administrations
for England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales each develop
policy for languages relevant for their particular context.
Consultation takes into account that all four nations together
constitute the UK, and the instruments developed reflect European
policy as well.
Each nation is developing or implementing a
languages strategy, as are a number of regional and local
administrations. While these have a particular relevance for
the teaching and learning of languages, they are also relevant for
other aspects of society, e.g. justice, security, health,
international trade.
