Languages
Count (Welsh Assembly Government, 2002)
The Welsh Assembly
Government (WAG) published a languages strategy for Wales in 2002:
Languages Count. The strategy is in the context of WAG’s
wider education policy, published in
The Learning Country in 2001.
Languages Count sets out the
WAG’s intentions to develop Wales’ capacity in languages other than
Welsh and English.
In the context of
consultation on the WAG’s 2005
Skills Action Plan a refreshed languages strategy may
incorporate a strengthened focus on language learning in
post-compulsory education, training and lifelong learning. It
focuses on measures in schools, especially primary.
Consultation is now in train
to refresh Languages Count (2002). Download the consultation
document at Making
Languages Count 2009.
