Primary Languages Survey
(September 2010)
The Primary Languages Survey was carried out in September 2010
by CILT, the National Centre for Languages, to examine the existing
provision for language teaching in primary schools in England -
including the percentage of primary schools teaching languages in
curriculum and issues of future sustainability. The survey was
completed by 100 Local Authority Advisers for Primary Languages
attending CILT's LA National Conference (16 - 17 September
2010).

Advisory Forum on Research
CILT’s Advisory Forum on Research comprises an
invited group of leading academics and practitioner researchers
drawn from the fields of languages, linguistics, education and the
social sciences in general. The Forum meets annually in a symposium
setting for informed dialogue with colleagues at CILT. Meetings may
have a theme.
The Forum is brought together to:
- offer for discussion leading research in the field of
languages, and in language learning and teaching, to an invited
audience of peers and to CILT, the National Centre for Languages
(CILT)
- advise on trends in academic research in languages and language
teaching
- inform CILT’s current and future programmes of support for
language practitioners
- be informed in turn by the work of CILT with non-research
bodies
- build on the research evidence base for ‘making the case’ for
languages to those in a position to inform and influence learner
offer and choice (e.g. policy makers, leaders of educational
institutions, senior officers in local government, parents,
governors).
The Forum also provides a standing network for
debate with colleagues at CILT on matters of common interest.
Members of the Group may be invited to participate in consultations
or other activities outside the formally scheduled annual
symposium.
