Languages Trends 2004, the results of a survey in autumn 2004,
reports on the number of schools in England making languages
optional at Key Stage 4, highlighting a deepening of the crisis
identified in Language Trends 2003
. The report was published jointly by the Association for Language
Learning, CILT, the National Centre for Languages and the
Independent Schools Modern Languages
Association.
This research and the issues it raises formed the basis of a
Lords debate in January 2005, click hear to read the transcript.
The results of the survey have been analysed by geographical
location, giving a clearer view of regional trends.
