Standards
Many qualifications are linked
to frameworks of standards. These can also be used for self
assessment and, in the case of occupational standards, by
employers, to gauge skills levels. For information about the
different frameworks and how they are used, click into the links on
the left. To see how the different frameworks relate to each other
see the table of equivalences within the Language Ladder section.
Qualifications in the UK
Language
qualifications in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland are
offered by several different awarding bodies and organisations.
They vary in size, scope and level. This means there is
considerable flexibility over how individuals can have their skills
recognised.
The introduction of credit and qualification
frameworks across the UK has enabled even greater flexibility for
combining level and scope of qualifications over a period of
time.
Delivering standards and qualifications
For 2010-11, CILT will be delivering its standards and
qualifications work in collaboration with other pan-sector skills
organisations. CILT is now part of a pan-sector skills consortium,
led by the Council for Administration. Other partners in the
consortium include a third SSB, SFEDI (Small Firms Enterprise
Development Initiative) and the following organisations: CFE
Research and Consulting, the Chartered Institute of Personnel and
Development (CIPD), Customer First, Direct Selling Association
(DSA), the Institute of Administrative Management (IAM), the
Institute of Leadership & Management (ILM), the Institute of
Professional Administration (IPA), The Performance Group Ltd (TPGL)
and the Trades Union Congress (TUC).
CILT will continue to lead on the work for
languages, interpreting, translation and intercultural working but
looks forward to working closely with our new partners to
deliver a complete pan-sector skills package.
