The government has published a statement of intent with regard to the language element for English Baccalaureate.

Languages available for study as part of the English Baccalaureate include full GCSEs in community languages e.g. Urdu, Bengali, Panjabi. The English Baccalaureate does not include short courses in any language.

Please note that inclusion is decided on the qualification not the languages and only the exceptions listed in the statement apply.
