Language through theatre, Department of Hispanic, Portuguese and Latin American Studies, University of Bristol
This project sees university students take to the stage to
polish their Spanish skills. Students fulfil a variety of roles in
addition to learning lines and performing, including research,
fundraising and marketing, as well set building and
costumemaking.
The eighteen-week Spanish-medium programme involves workshops
and literary analysis in addition to the performance. It is highly
popular, despite the time commitment often required beyond the
formal three hours a week. Associated projects include a drama
course for language teachers, organised by the drama
department.
‘Language through theatre’ is the recipient of the Spanish
Embassy special prize for the best project involving Spanish.
