This remarkable project sees Year 9 students draw inspiration
and enthusiasm for French from the work of Molière. They work on
the text of L’avare, research the life and times of the author and
use what they have learnt to take a scene from the play and while
retaining the characters, adapt the script to include elements from
a speaking assessment. Using the language, skills and techniques
developed in their work on the play, the students wrote and
recorded a presentation in French about themselves.
The project improved student confidence, performance and
enthusiasm. All students
performed beyond their target GCSE grades and there has been an
increase in the number of students opting for French at GCSE.
L’avare de Filey also receives the French Embassy special prize
for the best project involving French.
