This unique project, which motivates pupils to
learn languages whilst keeping fit, has been working with schools
across the country. Devon Learning and Development Partnership
(LDP) has created an innovative set of resources to help primary
teachers combine PE lessons with French and Spanish. The song and
dance activities set to aerobics routines engage all learners and
both the teachers and children find the activities highly
motivating.
Pupils develop their language and
intercultural skills through traditional French songs and rhymes
and participate in activities such as aerobic routines, running and
chasing games and coordination challenges.
The project has attracted interest from all
over the country and there have been numerous requests for the
Devon LDP Languages team to carry out training sessions to
introduce teachers to the scheme. Due to popular demand, a German
version is now in development. The easy-to-use resources are key to
the success of this project as teachers feel confident to
incorporate the activities into their lessons regardless of their
experience of language teaching.
Ça bouge! is an exciting example of
cross-curricular working and is also great fun for everyone
involved. This project also receives the EuroTalk Primary
Education Language Prize.
