Staff and students at the Bulwell Academy in
Nottingham have taken time out to thank three Business Language
Champions for their time, input and inspiration during a range of
language activities organised over the past few months.
Students were clearly inspired by Romain
Baudry, from Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Chamber of Commerce,
who shared his own experience of languages and challenged students
to plan a journey in France as part of an interactive workshop.
“We had a
great time finding out why languages are so important and learning
new words we did not know before.” Said
students Decclan and Chanel, whose sentiments were echoed by fellow
student Karolina who wrote in a thank you letter to Romain;
“You made us want to learn more
about France and French. We really hope that you will come again
and talk to us about where you live, where you have been and what
you have studied.”
A Flight Sergeant from the RAF, also created a
real buzz when he shared his experiences of learning and using
languages, as teaching and learning leader for MFL, Germina
Jauzelon agreed:
“It was difficult to remove you
from those year 8 students who literally surrounded you at the end
of your talk, and this is in my opinion absolute proof of how well
you connected with them.”
Dr Dalida Chouchi, from Boots, appealed to
Bulwell’s budding scientists by talking about the important link
between science and languages and Germina was keen to point out how
valuable this input was:
“The fact that you come from a
scientific background to advocate the case for languages is
absolutely brilliant, as this way our students can see that
excelling at something opens loads of opportunities, but having a
language on top of that makes them really stand out from the
crowd.”
