Students from Morpeth School in Bethnal Green were
given the chance to design the perfect school recently when they
took part in a Business Language Champions workshop with French
construction company Bouygues. The company, who will be
constructing the new school buildings after Easter, challenged Year
9 students to describe their ideal school in French, with senior
Bouygues employees having the difficult task of choosing a winning
team.
The event was a huge success as HR advisor
at Bouygues, Danielle Jackson said:
“The students adapted exceptionally well and came up with some
great ideas, even if we are unable to replace all stairs in a
school with slides and trampolines!”

Elsewhere across the capital, translation and interpreting
agency Language Connect, convinced students whose first language is
not English, that their natural linguistic abilities could lead to
university and even a career in the language industry. The
Year 10 and 11 students from the Convent of Jesus and Mary Language
College created and acted out role play dialogues in typical
interpreting scenarios including a doctor’s surgery and a
courtroom.
Asked what she thought of the workshop, one student commented
that “it was a wonderful and useful experience that gave us a
greater understanding of translation and interpretation. We
particularly enjoyed the practical exercise.”
