Business Language Champion, Flt. Sgt. Paul
Hughes was recognised recently for his continued contribution to
the promotion of language learning when he was awarded the David
Crystal Trophy.
The David Crystal Trophy is awarded as the
special commendation for the Chartered Institute of Linguists’
Threlford Memorial Cup. It is presented to an
individual/organisation who is considered to have made a
significant contribution to "Fostering the Study of Languages".
And there can be no doubt that Flt. Sgt. Paul
Hughes deserves this accolade, having worked with many schools in
the East Midlands as part of the Business Language Champions
programme.
In the last academic year, Paul visited over a
dozen schools and spread the message that languages can lead to
rewarding and exciting career opportunities to more than 1300
pupils. At various events across the region, including
workshops and presentations, Paul has spoken passionately
about his job in the RAF and pupils and
teachers alike have enjoyed hearing about his many adventures
overseas.
Paul will receive his trophy at an award
ceremony in London in November.
