Year 9 students from the Convent of Jesus
& Mary Language College in Harlesden, London, had the
opportunity to develop their language and entrepreneurial skills
recently when they took part in an International Day with support
from local businesses.
Students were split into groups and tasked
with creating a promotional campaign for a hotel in France, Spain
or Italy. After coming up with a name, location and target
audience for their hotel, teams designed a hotel logo, promotional
leaflet for the inaugural opening and signs for key areas within
the hotel.
Each team then delivered a short presentation
to the team of judges, made up of local business people, to explain
the resources they had created.
After listening to their business visitors
speak about their own marketing campaigns and the importance of
language skills within their organisations, the winning teams were
selected and prizes and certificates awarded.
The results were truly amazing: each hotel was
advertised very professionally, with eye-catching pictures and
enticing slogans, which made the judges’ task really hard. One of
them, Ms Tess Hickish from Language Connect, commented:
“It was a delight to spend time looking
over all your students’ hard work and talk to them about a
language-focused future. They are incredibly well
behaved!”
Dr Luisa Bonelli, Assistant Headteacher
added:
“My gratitude goes to all our guests for
giving so generously of their time and expertise and to the MFL and
Business departments for their hard work and commitment in ensuring
this event was once again such a success.”
