Two established West Midlands Business
Language Champions helped local students explore the importance of
language skills within the business world recently when they ran
workshops at a Global Enterprise Day.
Brian Savin, of Savin Productions and Matthew
Finch from PMD Magnetics were joined by the RLN’s Chris Everall as
they challenged Year 10 boys from Bishop Vesey’s Grammar School in
Sutton Coldfield to experience, explore and understand the value of
languages at work.
The students took part in a series of
workshops focusing on French, German, Spanish, Mandarin and general
global awareness. The workshops incorporated presentations, work
related tasks and problem solving challenges to get students
thinking about how language skills are beneficial to businesses as
well as impacting on their own future employability.
Matthew Finch, from PMD Magnetics, was
delighted with students’ enthusiasm and felt the day was a big
success, he said:
“Students discovered the practical
challenges of doing business around the world, from Japanese
etiquette to Peruvian public transport! During the international
marketing activity, they demonstrated real entrepreneurial flair as
they designed data media advertising for target markets around the
world.”
RLN Manager, Chris Everall, added:
“It was a real pleasure to work with the
students at Bishops Vesey and I was really impressed by the
interest they showed in the differences in international business
etiquette and the lively discussion on the topic.”
This event was organised with support from BXL
Education Business Partnership.
We would like to thank Brian and Matthew for
their involvement in this event as well as their other BLC
commitments.
