Pupils in the North West had a taste of how
languages are used in the workplace recently when they came up with
marketing and research strategies to sell biscuit products in the
French and Moroccan markets.
The 30 Year 9 students from St Patricks R C
High School visited Salford's Innovation Forum to pitch their ideas
to DG Consultancy director Delphine Greenhalgh.
Delphine had set students their international research and
marketing challenge when she visited the school last November as
part of the Business Language Champions programme in the North
West.
Six teams presented their work in true,
professional style and saw their efforts rewarded with Award
Certificates and prizes for the winning teams.
When asked if the project had improved their
understanding of languages in the workplace pupils said:
“I never thought much about languages, but now
I like languages and have decided to take it as an option!”
“'Learning a language isn't always about using
it on holiday but in different jobs, because it is very useful
especially in business.”
“'I now understand how important a language
is and also I've seen an actual workplace which made me understand
more.”
