Essex - Quartier rouge - Summer Conference
12th & 13th June 2008

The conference, with two of the seven SLNs in Essex and more than 30 teachers, was a huge success and celebration of all the work we have done, are doing and will do next year. Teachers were motivated, inspired, engaged and that's what we need to change pupil attitude. Teachers liked working with other teachers in their area and preferred this to the anonymity of courses. I think it was a good idea to take people away from the school environment so that they could focus intensely on education in a more relaxed context. Running two SLNs at once meant we all had more content to the conference - thus everyone benefits from a wider range of ideas - and I also included other interesting sessions.

The feedback from both days was 100% positive. A sample of the typical feedback is below:

Motivating students through French dance clubs'I loved it! - many thanks.'

'I have gained so much!'

'The day was superb.'

It was excellent and very useful'.

'The whole day was excellent with lots of things to use'

'Excellent opportunity to share ideas.'

It's been really good! I'll try and improve the cross-curricular teaching in my school either by following the teachers' ideas or finding new ideas (maybe with the History or Art departments).'

'Both days have been really informative and interesting. I would love to attend next year'-(Teacher from a different Quartier).

'It was a splendid day- full of great resources and ideas'.

'Really enjoyed it - fantastic opportunity to meet and share resources and ideas with other language teachers'.

'Thoroughly enjoyable even on a Friday afternoon! Lots of useful and practical ideas! - How many can I fit into our Scheme of Work?'

'I really enjoyed this conference, it was really interesting. Excellent opportunity for meeting other teachers and sharing ideas. I loved the speed sharing!'

In addition to mini-whiteboards already purchased, schools have requested a further 41 packs so that all members of the department have their own set!
