European Day of Languages fashion show

Fashion show

To celebrate the European Day of Languages we have run fashion shows. As a number of our girls are from Nigeria, Ghana, the Philippines among other places we have invited year 7 to come to school in their own national dress or the national dress of a county they like. Last year someone came in bright red Edam cheese clogs!

During the fashion show we take photos which we use to welcome year 7 on the first parents’ evening and we ask the local paper, in our case the Newham Recorder, to come in and photograph the girls in costume.

European foods

The canteen also offers national dishes decorated with flags. For the staff, the MFL dept prepare a European spread. The staff has to answer a little questionnaire about France, Germany and Spain for a laugh. We also get them to guess where the foods come from. We have found it is a great way of getting old and newly appointed staff to meet up at the start of term so it kills two birds with one stone.
