Arabic supplementary school
Context
Park View Academy is a north London comprehensive, which has Combined Specialist school status as a Language and Performing Arts College. It recognises and celebrates the ethnic, cultural and linguistic diversity of its staff, students and neighbourhood.
Together with West Green Learning Centre, they offered a supplementary school, which aims to develop Arabic language skills among children from Arabic and non-Arabic backgrounds. The lessons are presented in a formal structure by native Arabic speakers from Yemen, Egypt, Lebanon and Iraq.
The supplementary school has two sessions on a Saturday: 10.00 to 12.00 for 5-11 year olds and 12.30 to 2.30 for 11-15 year olds. There are two classes in the morning session for beginners and lower intermediate. The afternoon session caters for upper intermediate & advanced (GSCE level). Children are registered for the whole academic year. There is a £25 fee to pay each term.
