New generation of EU education programmes launched
Languages have been given a high priority within the next generation of EU programmes in education, training, culture, youth and citizenship have been adopted by the European Commission. The new Lifelong Learning Programme, which will until 2013, replaces the Socrates, Leonardo da Vinci and eLearning programmes, which came to an end last year. The Programme covers learning at all stages in life and is made up of four sub-groups: education in schools (Comenius), higher education (Erasmus), vocational training (Leonardo da Vinci) and adult education (Grundtvig). A transversal programme focusing on policy co-operation, languages, ICT and dissemination and the new Jean Monnet action, focusing on supporting the university teaching of European integration complete the 2007-2013 programme. A call for proposals has been published with the first deadline (Erasmus) as 28 February 2007. Full details, including mobility targets as well as application forms, are available on the Europa website.
