HE languages conference explores transitions and connections
The fourth biennial Languages in Higher Education Conference will take place at the University of York on 8-9 July. The national conference, Transitions and connections, is jointly organised by CILT, the National Centre for Languages and the Subject Centre for Languages, Linguistics and Area Studies, in association with key subject associations in languages in higher education.
Transitions and connections is designed for anyone involved with languages in higher education, both in the UK and internationally, and for those working in sectors which border on higher education, such as secondary schools, further and adult education. It is also aimed at representatives of business, languages professions and any other employers looking to develop closer links with education in the field of languages.
The conference offers a wide range of workshops and plenary sessions that draw on a growing body of expertise within higher education languages. Key themes of the conference include: working across sectors; the curriculum; the language learning environment; community languages; languages and employment and Routes into Languages.
Speakers at the conference will include: Mike Kelly, Director of LLAS and Head of the School of Humanities at Southampton; Lid King, National Director for Languages; Sir Harold Walker, former UK Ambassador to Iraq; Mike Byram, Professor of Education, Durham University; and Henry Dixon, Commercial Director of Barrett Dixon Bell.
A free exhibition runs alongside the conference, giving visitors the opportunity to browse the latest resources for languages in higher education.
