Sheffield to host third Community Languages National Conference

Booking is now open for CILT’s third Community Languages National Conference, which takes place on Wednesday 11 June at the Holiday Inn Royal Victoria in Sheffield. Run in association with Languages Sheffield , Community Languages: Developing practice for the 21st Century is a national conference focussing on community languages teaching and learning.

This year’s show will also see the launch of Our Languages, the website of a major new project developing partnerships between complementary and maintained schools.

The conference is aimed at all teachers and managers with an interest in community languages, whether from mainstream or supplementary/complementary schools, in both the primary and secondary sectors. Those working in FE, HE, AE, ITE and language centres will also benefit from the broad range of practical workshops, plenaries, advice sessions and discussions available.

This year’s keynote speeches come from Dr Lid King, the National Director for Languages, and
Dr Charmian Kenner, from the Department of Educational Studies at Goldsmiths, University of London.

Key themes include vocational approaches to learning; the National Languages Strategy and community languages; Initial teacher training provision; and recent research and its implications.

A free exhibition runs alongside the exhibition, giving visitors a chance to browse the latest resources for community languages teaching.
