It is with great sadness that we report the death of Peter Boaks, former Acting Director of CILT, who died on Tuesday (27 September). Peter had worked at CILT since 1990 and was Deputy Director of the organisation from 1993. He took over as Acting Director in 2003 until his retirement in September 2004. His contribution to the work of the organisation was inestimable. Before coming to CILT he had worked as Head of Languages and as a Languages Advisor for the former ILEA and his expertise was firmly based in grass roots teaching experience in the comprehensive sector. After his retirement he continued to support the language teaching world as Chief Examiner for German at AQA and a Trustee of the Association for Language Learning. |
He was much loved and highly respected, and will be sadly missed by all those who worked with him during his many years of service to language teaching. He will be remembered especially for his practical good sense derived from long classroom experience, his wit and wisdom in supporting colleagues, and his complete commitment to seeing all learners gain from a greater knowledge of languages. Condolences to Peter’s family may be sent c/o CILT, the National Centre for Languages. |
