Most schools delivering Entry Level certificate courses use
conventional GCSE textbooks as these will cover the topic areas of
the Entry Level Certificate course comprehensively. Where two tiers
of coursebook are available, the version of the book aimed at
Foundation GCSE candidates is the one to select.
The assessment tasks are provided in advance and some teachers
use these to create their own similar materials to use for practice
purposes.
Resources aimed at beginners and students in KS3 may well be
appropriate to students following an Entry Level certificate course
in KS4. However, it is important that if resources have already
been used in KS3 that they are not presented to the students again
in KS4 as this will have a demotivating effect.
Online resources aimed at beginners or less able linguists which
schools delivering Entry Level have found useful include Textmatch (part of the
TaskMagic range of exercises) and Linguascope, a subscription
website.
