FCSE in Year 9
To accredit performance in languages at the end of the key stage 3
to ensure that students not continuing with languages in KS4
could be rewarded for their language.
Ab initio FCSE
Languages
The course has been favourably received by the students which is
made up largely of teenage boys with low confidence. They are more
positive about learning a language and feel that they can achieve
something.
FCSE to increase
take-up
Initially the FCSE qualification was piloted with the two top set
Year 9 groups, students who were targeting high level 5s and
level 6s at the end of Key Stage 3. Following the success of this
pilot it was used with a range of groups, from those predicted a
high level 6 to those predicted a low level 4.
FCSE to accredit French and
Spanish in Year 9
Objectives:
- To trial the AQA FCSE qualification with two pilot groups in
Year 9.
- To accredit performance in French and Spanish of 3 groups of
Year 9 students which were selected for the pilot. All of these
students had a high level of motivation and interest but some may
not choose a language as an option in KS4.
