Essentials for a successful A level
course
The strengths of the department are:
- High achievement at GCSE AS/A level
- Creative teaching including excellent use of technology and
resources
- Good support for learners
- Highly effective curriculum and course management
- An outstanding learning environment.
Using technology to create viable A Level
groups
There are six secondary schools in the area with post-16 provision
and all had experienced difficulties in recruiting sufficient
numbers to AS language courses to make groups viable. As in other
parts of the country, the numbers opting for languages at KS4,
particularly as a second language, had also decreased and this
exacerbated the situation.
Teaching of AS, A2 and the IB
Objective: to co-teach AS and A2 languages and the International
Baccalaureate programme to students in Years 12 and 13.
Gaining skills and confidence for
AS level speaking in German
At Sackville School, students are
prepared for their AS oral examination by using the motivating and
encouraging environment of a luxury hotel to enable them to
undertake research in German.
