We have produced some lists for the four languages most commonly
taught for GCSE (French, German, Spanish and Italian) which show
the range of resources currently available:
- French
resources (rtf 109 KB)
- German
Resources (rtf 90 KB)
- Spanish
Resources (rtf 147 KB)
- Italian
resources (rtf 101 KB)
- Some of these courses are complete 11-16 courses and often
contain GCSE assessment packs which are specific to particular
awarding bodies.
- Some are stand-alone courses for KS4 only and some are
ab-initio KS4 courses
- Courses are always supplemented by listening materials and
teacher’s materials
- Some courses have other support materials available including
flashcards, OHT files, on-line resources, CD-Rom resources and
resources for interactive whiteboard use
There are also revision resources available for GCSE which can
be used in class or independently. It is important that the correct
types of resources are selected according to the awarding body.
Students should be given advice on the selection of revision
materials. The BBC bitesize revision
website can be very helpful as it provides revision materials
at Foundation and Higher level in all four skills in French, German
and Spanish.
Schools often put revision materials onto a virtual learning
environment so that their own pupils can access resources specific
to the course being followed in the school. Other schools allow
materials to be accessed by all by placing them on the school
website.
Some examples:
Royal Grammar School's Languages Online
website
The Ashcombe School's MFL
web pages
Miltoncross School's
Languages Offered web pages
It is recommended that publishers’ websites be consulted on a
regular basis so that teachers can see new materials
available.
Teachers often make use of ICT in language lessons. For useful
ideas visit CILT's Languages ICT website. There
is a specific section on Using ICT
effectively at Key Stage 4.
Sharing resources and ideas with others
Many teachers also enjoy sharing resources they have made with
others in free resource-sharing forums. In these forums it is
usually possible to search by language and key stage or to find
resources for particular topics.
