The most effective and appropriate resources are likely to be
created and produced by the teachers involved. Very few published
resources exist.
- Teachers may decide to produce a pupil booklet of activities to
support learning
- A Foreign Language Assistant will be an invaluable support in
the production of resources and as classroom support in the
‘content’ lesson
- The internet is an excellent medium for finding authentic
texts. In addition there are a wide range of target language
websites to support learning and provide real content
- When choosing resources produced in the target language
consider the age that the resource has been produced for. In order
to be accessible, choose resources for learners that are younger
than those you are teaching
- Learning materials on each topic provide pupils with support
and to encourage pupil use of spontaneous language
- Consider using displays to support learning in non-language
teaching rooms. Agree on classroom phrases that will be common to
both subject areas and display them in both teaching rooms
- Simplify authentic materials to ensure that they are
accessible. Choose resources that contain visuals
- Use challenging texts, but make the activities pupils are asked
to complete in relation to a text accessible
- Assessments will need to be created by teachers. It is
important to decide what is being assessed; the content or the
language. It may be appropriate to assess both for some pieces of
work.
