CILT is introducing some brand new awards for students in the
14-19 age group. There will be five different categories as
outlined below and in each category a Gold, Silver and Bronze prize
will be awarded.
The awards are being sponsored by ABC Awards, AQA, Cactus Language,
Capital L, Edexcel, GCHQ, OCR, Open University, Oxford
University Press, Sports Leaders and the University of
Birmingham.
Category 1: The National Award for
Excellence in Advanced Language Learning for students
16-19.
This award is aimed at advanced level language learners on courses
such as AS and A2 but could also include other advanced courses
such as Asset Languages or Institute of Linguist advanced
courses. It could also include students on Open University
YASS courses.
Gold: £400 plus a specialist software package from
the Open University and a chance to shadow a languages
undergraduate at the University of Birmingham.
Silver: £200 and a chance to shadow a languages
undergraduate at the University of Birmingham.
Bronze: £150 and a chance to shadow a languages
undergraduate at the University of Birmingham.
Category 2: The National Award for Excellence in
Intermediate Level Language Learning for students
14-16
This award is aimed at students following
Higher GCSE or equivalent level courses such as an Asset Language
course at Intermediate Level. There will be a special award
for ab initio learners who have achieved an excellent standard
at intermediate level in a short period of time.
Gold: £150 and a Language Learner dictionary
Silver: £100 and a Language Learner
dictionary
Bronze: £50 and a Language Learner dictionary
Category 3: The National Award for Excellence in
work-related language learning for students
14-19
This award aims to recognise outstanding
achievement by students on work-related language courses such as
NVQ, CBLC, ABC, Asset Languages for the World of Work, Applied GCSE
and ICAAE Certificate in Business Chinese.
Gold: A language holiday to Spain and £100
spending money
Silver: £150
Bronze: £100
Category 4: The National Award for Excellence in
Community/Heritage Language Learning for students aged
14-19.
This award aims to recognise outstanding
achievement by learners of Community Languages.
Gold: £150
Silver: £100
Bronze: £50
Category 5: The National Award for
Excellence in Teaching languages to younger learners for students
aged 14-19.
This award is for excellence in the
teaching of younger language learners either in their
own school or college setting or within a primary
school.
Gold: £150
Silver: £75
Bronze: £50
