In this lesson Lizzie Hoskins is working with a KS4 class who
are building up an NVQ portfolio at level
1 based on the National Language
Standards. The students are preparing for a speaking
assessment which involves working in pairs either as a customer
or sales assistant set in the work context of a shoe
shop.
The teacher presents a gapped dialogue which she has made using
Task Magic software.
Students complete this in writing initially working together as a
group facilitated by the teacher who questions them as they work
through the dialogue. This is a revision of work covered in a
previous lesson.
The students then work on the speaking task in pairs. The
teacher assesses the pairs and at the end of the clip, she refers
to the assessment again and discusses with the students which
aspects of the National Language Standards have been
covered.
