The training will equip you with a greater
knowledge and understanding of how to enhance the international
dimension in your own school.
The suite of modules is designed to help
schools develop the international dimension. It is best used in a
group in a languages department or as a whole school exercise to
assist in the planning process and to help teachers to plan how to
increase the international work in which they are involved.
What does the training consist of and
how long will it take me?
The training consists of 3
modules, all of which may be used independently.
Before you start (15
minutes)
The training modules:
- Module 1: How
some schools have developed their international work
should take between 2 and 4 hours.
The aim of this module is for teachers to begin exploring ideas to
increase international links in their school and to conduct an
audit of what is currently on offer.
- Module 2: Ten
Top Tips to International Stardom by Charmian Hartley,
International Director, Hove Park School. This video presentation
is 35 minutes long in total.
In this module, Charmian explains how international links have
developed in her school and gives useful advice on making links,
obtaining funding from the British Council and applying for the
International Schools Award.
- Module 3: The
Certificate of Personal Effectiveness (CoPE) through
International Communications and Business Enterprise.
Rachel Hawkes, Assistant Principal and Director of Language
College, Comberton Village College.
This module begins with a narrated presentation by Rachel Hawkes,
where she describes an alternative course which she has devised
based on the ASDAN Certificate of Personal Effectiveness (CoPE).
This course, delivered to less able linguists in KS4 as an
alternative to GCSE accredits language skills as well as life
skills and at Level 2, can offer a B grade equivalence. The
module goes on to explore the course in more detail by video
interviews with staff and students and a detailed case study.
