What will learners do?
MYLO is organised into a series of
challenges. Each challenge is designed to offer a fully-rounded and
self-contained learning experience, promoting language learning
through creativity, problem-solving, decision-making and
enquiry.
Challenges include designing a football kit for a
French-speaking team, creating a German monster game, helping an
eccentric Canadian chef to describe his fantastic new menu and
inventing a Spanish character for a ground-breaking computer
game.
How can it support my
teaching?
MYLO offers an extremely flexible
set of language resources that can be used by pupils at home or in
school, and individually or in groups.
Will I have additional preparation
to do?
No. All of the materials to
complete a challenge, or practice activity, including background
notes and dictionaries are included. Your pupils can enrol
themselves into MYLO, so you won't have to enter all
of their details.
Will pupils like
it?
MYLO
includes loads of different games and activities, so pupils are
bound to find something that interests them.
Can it be used outside of
school?
Yes. Pupils will be able to
access their work and complete challenges in any setting, providing
they have internet access.
What level of technical competence
do I need?
There is no installation
to worry about as MYLO is completely online, and can
be accessed by a password anywhere there is internet access.
Simple instructions are given for the
completion of all challenges and practice activities. All software
and tools are included and will be explained as you go.
You can use MYLO in your classroom on individual
PCs, or via a whiteboard for whole class or group teaching.
How much does it
cost?
Nothing. MYLO is free and open to anyone and
everyone.
Is it safe?
We take
pupil privacy very seriously, so features where learners work
together are only available when a group has been set up by a
teacher.
How can I get
involved?
MYLO is free and open to
all. You don't need to register to use MYLO, but registering your
school allows you to make full use of the collaboration facilities
on the site.
- The nominated school administrator creates
accounts for the teachers in their school. The teacher creates a
group and is given a unique access code to share with
learners.
- Learners create personal accounts for
themselves and then join the groups using the access code that the
teacher has given to them.
- The teacher can review work and track
progress of individuals, and then publish the best work that is
created so that it can be viewed by the entire community.
